This year's top picks cars in 10 categories chosen by the highly influential U.S. Consumer Reports magazine were all Japanese cars. The top picks are based on survey results, including acceleration, handling, braking, ride quality and visibility together with good scores in crash tests by the government and the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety and fuel economy.

- 2002 Japanese cars receive high evaluation in Germany
On Oct 22 J.D.Power, an international automobile market trend research company head-quartered in the US reports that questionaire targeted to 15,000 German drivers resulted in extremely high evaluation of Japanese cars.
This research involved 32 car types, 132 models. and was classified into 7 classes to evaluate.
The result is as follows and in each class Japanese cars received the highest points.
Especially, LEXUS IS 200 received the highest evaluation out of all cars in the research.
In this research, as customers satisfaction index, the following four aspects of the leading manufacturers are also presented for evaluation; quality/reliability, appealing index, dealers satisfaction index and maintenance fee (According to the research, quality/reliability, dealers satisfaction index went to TOYOTA and DAIHATSU got the top for maintenance fee)
In overall result, 1. TOYOTA, 2. MAZDA, 4. HONDA, 6. DAIHATSU 7. SUBARU,
Japanese cars monopolized the top rankings.
